Koenigsegg Automotive AB is a Swedish manufacturer of super sports cars.
Koenigsegg® was founded in 1994 by Christian von Koenigsegg in Ängelholm, Sweden.
Series production began in 2000. The project to produce a super sports car in Sweden was supported during the development phase by Saab® and Volvo®, among others, as well as by many suppliers.
Christian von Koenigsegg's goal was to launch a vehicle on the market as a "pure driving machine", as he called it. Low weight, high engine power and the use of high-quality materials were important aspects.
On 16 June 2009, Koenigsegg® reached an agreement with the American car manufacturer General Motors® to buy its insolvent Swedish subsidiary Saab®. The companies involved had applied to the European Investment Bank for financial support of EUR 450 million, which was to be guaranteed by the Swedish government.
On 24 November 2009, however, Koenigsegg® surprisingly cancelled his plans with Saab®.
Products:
The models launched so far are the Koenigsegg® CC8s and the CCR, CCX, CCXR and CCGT racing versions based on it, as well as the special edition CCXR Edition with only one model sold to Germany in 2010.
In 2011, the successor models Agera and Agera R appeared.
In 2014, the special model One:1, limited to six pieces, was presented, which was shown for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show. A year later, the Koenigsegg® Regera, a plug-in hybrid with a combined output of 1.1 MW, and the Koenigsegg® Agera RS, an extended racing version of the Koenigsegg® Agera R, were presented
At the Geneva Motor Show in March 2019, the company presented the Koenigsegg® Jesko, a new top model.
On 3 March 2020, Koenigsegg® presented the Gemera in Geneva, which the company calls the "Mega-GT". It is the manufacturer's first four-seater vehicle and is powered by three electric motors and a two-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine as a plug-in hybrid.
The engine of the Jesko will power the CC850 presented in August 2022, which is intended to be a tribute to the CC8s of 2002. The super sports car is limited to 70 units and is said to be the most powerful production vehicle with manual transmission.
In 2013, Koenigsegg® introduced the Free-Valve® technology. It controls the valves by pneumatic-hydraulic-electric actuators. As a result, the valves can be opened and closed variably (duration and stroke) and optimally adapted to the respective engine condition. The absence of camshaft and timing belt also means less friction, which allows a higher overall performance of the engine with lower consumption.
Production facility:
The vehicles are manufactured in Valhall Park, an industrial park near Ängelholm.
A limited contingent of tours of the production facilities is offered on the homepage for 30 US dollars.
